BoOK COVERS : REIMAGINED

Book titles were randomized within a specific category and assigned to a student. After studying the original book cover design, I was tasked with redesigning three unrelated books into a cohesive series using two different visual representations. The first is illustrated, and the second is photographed using “found objects.”

I used a simplistic and minimal design for the illustrated reimagined book cover. Using the city skyline or mountain range, the book is discussed and illustrated on a third of the cover, wrapping around the book's spine to the back and mirroring the front. I chose colors I felt best represented the environment, using a mixture of warm and cool tones for Mexico, warm tones for Africa, and cool tones for the Polar Regions. My goal was for the design to be simple yet effective in drawing the readers’ attention.

In keeping with my simplistic and minimal design approach, I used only a single “found object” to represent the information in the book. I placed them on fabric, blankets, or rugs to create texture and give my photos a sense of physical dimension.
